>Shootout in Ubay and Albur Bohol


Two people were killed and another was wounded in a spate of unrelated violent incidents in two towns last week.
In Ubay , a habal-habal driver was killed after he was shot by a sidewalk vendor at the public market.
The victim was identified as Renante Cubatcha, 32, a resident of Barangay Tipolo, Ubay town.
Cubatcha was declared dead on arrival at the Don Emilio del Valle Memorial Hospital due to gunshot wounds on his back.
The suspect was identified as one Arthur Abdol, of legal age and a sidewalk vendor who is a native of Carlos P. Garcia town .
Incident reports revealed that the victim was drinking inside one of the restaurants about 7 pm last Sept. 24.
A commotion ensued outside the restaurant, prompting the victim to go near the scene of the commotion out of curiosity.
While Cubatcha was standing near a waiting shed, the victim suddenly shot him with a still undetermined firearm.            
After the shooting, the suspect fled in the direction of Barangay Casate.
Police investigators are still trying to determine the motive for the shooting.
It was not known if the commotion that aroused the victim’s curiosity and the shooting were related to each other.
Meanwhile, an argument over unpaid debt led to the fatal stabbing of a store owner in Alburquerque town.
The victim was identified as one Cipriano Henson, 60, married and a native of Sitio Lapok, Barangay Toril, Alburquerque.
His assailant was identified as one Ernesto Gono, 46, widower and a resident of the same place.
Initial investigation revealed that Henson was in his home about 2 pm last Sept. 24 when the suspect passed by.
When Henson saw Gono, he called out to the latter to collect the debt he incurred in the victim’s store.
The suspect however asked that he be given more time but the victim refused.
This resulted in a heated argument between the two. At the height of the confrontation, the suspect stabbed the victim with a bladed weapon.
After the incident, the victim was rushed to the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital but the victim expired.
The suspect was subsequently arrested by the Alburquerque police and was locked up at the PNP jail.
Appropriate charges were being readied for filing against Gono.
Also in Ubay town, a farmer was shot in the head while he was drinking inside his house about 7 pm last Sept. 20.
The victim was identified as one Dionisio Boaquin, 53, a resident of Barangay Hambabauran, Ubay.
Boaquin was hit on his head after he was shot by a still unidentified suspect.
Responding policemen gathered that the suspect was drinking with his friends inside his home when the shooting took place.
The suspect wore a jacket and masked his face during the attack.
The victim was rushed to the Don Emilio del Valle Hospital but was referred to a hospital in Tagbilaran for further treatment.
Ubay policemen are still looking into the circumstances of the attack to determine the identity of the suspect and the motive for the shooting.
