Philippine Marines on Medical and Dental Mission in Sulu

Six hundred residents in Barangay Simbahan in Pangutaran town, Sulu have benefited from the joint medical and dental civic action program (MEDCAP) undertaken Wednesday by troops from the Philippine Marine and Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) personnel.

Marine Battalion Landing Team-5 (MBLT-5) chief Lt. Col. Ferdinand Fraginal said the residents were provided free medical consultation, dental services as well as circumcision, pediatrics, and cyst operation.

Live birth registration and information campaign on malaria and dengue prevention, family planning, proper nutrition, health and sanitation was also held during the one-day MEDCAP.

“The military’s peace efforts do not only comprise peace and order concerns but to include development initiatives,” Fraginal said.

Pangutaran is a fourth class municipality of Sulu province with 16 barangays and has a population of 26,211 with 4,643 households base on the 2000 census.

Third Marine Brigade chief Col. Eugenio Clemen has expressed gratitude to the support given the MBLT-5 by the IPHO of Sulu.

Clemen said basic services could be promptly delivered as well as providing security by continuously working in unity.
