Bohol Governor Erico Aumentado is in China for a nine-day four-city visit to campaign for investments and tourists, as well as accompany the Loboc Youth Band on a string of performances on a trip sponsored by the Philippines’ Special Envoy to China Carlos Chan.
Also with the group that is slated to visit the cities of Shanghai, Mudanjiang, Harbin and Dalian are Mayor Leon Calipusan and Vice Mayor Luisito Digal of Loboc town.
Chan who earlier brought to Loboc the Little Companion Art Troupe of the Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation for a back-to-back performance with the Loboc Children’s Choir now wants to showcase the youth band some members of which are alumni of the choir.
The band’s repertoire includes theme songs from some James Bond movies including Live and Let Die.
According to the Wikipedia, the encyclopedia in the internet, Shanghai has risen from war, turmoil and economic crisis. A favorable national policy, efficient administration, regular market mechanism and a large number of talents have come together to enhance by leaps and bounds the city’s economic development in recent years.
Now over 300 of the world's top 500 enterprises have opened branches in Shanghai, while many have their research and development centers or headquarters there. Pudong New Area has developed in just five years, and Lujiazui in Pudong has become one of the foremost world class financial and trade zones in Asia.
Skyscrapers such as Jinmao Tower and Shanghai Global Financial Center dominate the skyline, while landmark constructions like Oriental Pearl TV Tower, Pudong International Airport and Shanghai International Convention Center offer the finest and best of modern facilities.
These economic achievements are due to Shanghai’s progress in the fields of politics, finance, trade, culture, science and technology. Various important international events have held in Shanghai, including political conventions, commercial conferences, academic forums, sports events, cultural exhibitions, film festivals and fashion shows.
On the other hand, Mudanjiang is a city with a power plant. It has a railway junction and an airport. Mudanjiang is about 160 km from the Russian city of Vladovostok and has a population of 707,000.
The region's premier tourist attraction is Jingpo Lake famous for its craggy limestone cliffs similar to those of Guilin and its turquoise waters containing Ericton fish and fresh water coral.
Meanwhile, Dalian is one of the most heavily developed industrial areas of China. It is an agriculture- and aquaculture-based area that produces corn, vegetables, fruit such as apples, cherries and pears. It exports seaweed, scallops, sea urchins and others to Japan, Korea and other countries.
Its shipbuilding and locomotives industries are thriving. Dalian Port is emerging as a very important port for international trade. It has a new harbor for oil tankers and is the largest petroleum port in China, and also the 3rd largest port overall. Accordingly, Dalian is a major center for oil refineries, diesel engineering, and chemical production.
Harbin is a sub-provincial city and the capital of the Heilongjiang Province in Northeast China. It is ranked as the tenth largest city in China, serving as a key political, economic, scientific, cultural and communications center of Northeastern China.
Harbin is originally a Manchu word meaning "a place for drying fishing nets". It bears the nicknames "the Pearl on the swan’s neck" because the shape of Heilongjiang resembles a swan, and "Oriental Moscow" or "Oriental Paris" for the architecture in the city. Harbin is also known as "Ice City" for its long and cold winter. This city is most famous for its beautiful display of ice sculptures in the winter.
While in the four cities, Aumentado will campaign as well for the inclusion of the province’s top tourist destination – the Chocolate Hills – in the New 7 Wonders of Nature.
The New 7 Wonders Foundation now updates the live ranking of the 77 semi-finalists only weekly. The Chocolate Hills was No. 11 two weeks ago but jumped to No. 4 last week.
Internet voting will be conducted until December 31 to determine which site will finally represent a country with multiple candidates. Top-ranked candidates, along with the rest in the Top 77 will be voted on again until July 7, 2009.
