Pampanga Governor Panlilo Asked to Resign

In the wake of the recent recall petition filed by political leaders at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) against Pampanga Governor Ed “Among” Panlilio, the embattled governor is now facing another challenge to his administration as another group, this time headed by his former loyal supporters, upped the ante by calling for his resignation Friday.

The group that calls itself as the BALAS (Biyaya a Luluguran at Sisikapan) Boys, is headed by former seminarians who were at the forefront of Panlilio’s 2007 election campaign and have once been his loyal supporters and advisers before resigning due to several administrative and personal differences.

In calling for Panlilio’s resignation, Archimedes Reyes, the governor’s former chief of staff, said that “instead of focusing on their vision of uniting Pampanga’s leaders and its people, the governor had somehow sown discord and distrust due to lack of governance, over self-righteousness, mismanagement and his stubborn stance against clamors for the removal of the provincial administrator, Atty. Vivian Dabu.”

According to Reyes, Dabu is in fact the root of all the woes of Panlilio.

Besides being provincial administrator, Reyes noted that Dabu concurrently holds multiple sensitive positions as Provincial Legal Officer, provincial engineer, bids and awards committee chair, procurement chief, chief of staff and provincial treasurer, among others.

“We are now wondering on who is really running the show in Pampanga,” Reyes said.

For his part, Roperlee Syquia, former consultant on social services, said that in the onset, they were expecting good, transparent and responsible governance from Panlilio’s administration but the governor had miserably failed their expectations.

“His over-righteousness and utter lack of trust in local officials had created a political environment that is not conducive to growth,” Syquia said.

He likewise scored Panlilio’s over-dependence on Dabu on political and budgetary matters.

I hope that Governor would someday become the President of the Republic of the Philippines. Only the corrupt would oppose.
