Loboc Children’s Choir and the Loboc Youth Ambassador Band

The back-to-back performances of the Loboc Children’s Choir and the Loboc Youth Ambassador Band in the cities of Shanghai and Hang Zhou in the People’s Republic of China were a huge success.

Calling direct from the airport in Shanghai yesterday while waiting for his plane back to Manila, Gov. and Bohol delegation head Erico Aumentado said in spite of specific instructions at the start of the show that there should be no applause between numbers, the audience couldn’t help themselves but clapped and sang with the choir’s rendition of the repertoire from the Sister Act, particularly the song I Will Follow Him.

With him on the trip sponsored by the Philippines’ Special Envoy to China Carlos Chan were his wife Peregrina, and Mayor Leon Calipusan and Vice Mayor Luisito Digal of Loboc town. The Chan family owns Liwayway Marketing Corporation, manufacturer of the Oishi line of snack foods with its main plant in Imus, Cavite and satellite factories in Cebu and Cagayan de Oro cities.

Under the special envoy’s management in 1993, Liwayway ventured into mainland China where it now has over 12 manufacturing facilities, with plants also set up in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, in Yangon, Myanmar and in Cambodia.

While on the nine-day trip, Aumentado said he also vigorously campaigned for the inclusion of the Chocolate Hills in the New 7 Wonders of Nature. He said Chan who earlier on committed to help him in the campaign vowed to mobilize his Oishi network and over 1,000 dealers and distributors in the Chinese mainland and even in Vladivostok in Russia..

The governor had brought breast pocket-size propaganda materials campaigning for votes already translated into Mandarin – the official language of the country that speaks over 1,000 dialects – and distributed them.

China’s director for tourism met with the Chan-led group while in Harbin and Dalian cities, he said.

Harbin is a sub-provincial city and the capital of Heilongjiang Province in Northeast China. It is ranked as the tenth largest city in China, serving as a key political, economic, scientific, cultural and communications center of Northeastern China.

On the other hand, Dalian, also known as “Romantic City,” is “a very, very beautiful city that draws many tourists, the governor observed.

Mudanjiang is one of the best-known tourist cities in northeast China in the south of Heilongjiang province, and is known for its beautiful mountains, lakes and luxuriant forests.

It is only one and half kilometers from the Russian border, so that Aumentado said, he went up to the border and – with all the guards watching – crossed to the Russian side and therefore stepped on Russian soil.

Shanghai is China’s business hub. Over 300 of the world’s top 500 enterprises have opened branches in Shanghai, while many have their research and development centers or headquarters there. Over the years, it has grown especially in the fields of politics, finance, trade, culture, science and technology. Various important international events have held in Shanghai, including political conventions, commercial conferences, academic forums, sports events, cultural exhibitions now including the performance of the Loboc Children’s Choir, film festivals and fashion shows.

At dinner meetings with top honchos of the Chinese business community brokered by Chan, Aumentado said a major drawback prospective investors aired is the Philippines’ policy that foreigners cannot own land and that they can invest up to 40 percent only in corporations – and not as individual businessmen.
