Association of Government Accountants of the Philippines (AGAP)

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) was cited Wednesday as one of the Outstanding Accounting Offices for 2007 by the Association of Government Accountants of the Philippines (AGAP) during its national convention held from Oct. 15-18 here.

The department, along with other awardees, was commended for Timeliness, Completeness, Reliability and Accuracy in the dispatch of the government’s accounting procedures and systems.

DSWD Financial Management Service Director Deseree D. Fajardo and members of DSWD Finance Team from the different regions received the award from convention keynote speaker and Metro Manila Development Authority Chair Bayani F. Fernando.

Other recipients were 18 local government units, three state universities and 10 national agencies and institutes.

As model agency, DSWD was tasked to present a paper Good Governance and Financial Reforms: The DSWD Example through Assistant Secretary Mateo G. Montaño.

Other topics include Internal Control: The Lynchpin of Transparency and Accountability in Government Agencies by Executive Assistant Secretary Alberto A. Bernardo of the Office of the President; Rising Inflation Rates: Its Current Causes and Possible Implications on Government Fiscal Reforms by Dr. Cyd N. Tuaño-Amador of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas; and Sweeping the Dust Off Government: The Issue of Corruption by PAGC Chair Constancia P. De Guzman.
